The process:
1) A printing job is created in pre-press using standard design tools (*e.g. Adobe Illustrator™, PhotoShop™, CorelDraw, AutoCad™, Design-It™, FlexiSign™, CasMate™, Gerber Graphic Advantage™). The pre-press operator includes register marks and contours for cutting (both face and through cutting lines can be automatically processed). The job is printed and sent along with the cutting contours to our cutting department.
2) Our automated process makes setup times lasting only a few minutes or less.
3) Our systems intelligent cutting utilities use a set of complex mathematical algorithms, allowing the cutting path to be optimized and modified dynamically as cutting is proceeding. Each curve point is accurately moved according to the actual position of the three nearest register marks. Each cut path is recalculated to match the actual printing, including any type of printing or media distortion. The number of recalculations is only limited to the number of register marks the user elects to have i-cut read. All areas of a sheet are accurately cut - even when one area shrinks 1% and another expands by 1.5%.
The result:
Significantly reduced material waste in connection with finishing processes: Our customers typically report reduction of waste by 50% to 90%. The intelligent curve adjustments in the software ensure that any type of distortion is responded to by moving the curve points accordingly. Non-aligned printing and die cutting is now a thing of the past.
The high-precision high-output cutting system produces a precise and easy-to-weed cut in materials such as self-adhesive vinyl. Even thicker polycarbonate, foam board and cartons can be cut using one of several optional tool heads.
Our digital automated cutting system accurately controls the cutting pressure for both face and through cutting curves. Each cutting curve is assigned a specific cutting pressure from the software. This is ideal for combining face cutting of graphics with through cutting.
The use of highly accurate cutting pressure settings, and tungsten carbide blades result in extremely weeding friendly cuts. For face cut the weeding time is typically cut by 50% - 80%, or completely eliminated, if done when plotter is operating in dual mode. The process will also do away with raised cutting edges and "nicks" often seen with using magnesium dies or steel rule dies.
It is no longer necessary to reduce the printing sheet size to avoid mis-registration, typically done in die cutting. The system's optical camera vision reads a number of register marks and allows printers to print as large a sheet as can fit in the printing equipment and on the cutter. The system handles an unlimited number of shrinkage calculations in both the X and Y directions. If your printing capacity is a bottleneck, using our services may double or triple your printing capacity.
Digitally printed images: it is clearly a contradiction to use hard tooling (dies) for cutting out digitally printed images. We offer the missing link to efficiently cut out graphics printed from a range of digital printing methods ranging from digital offset, heat transfer, wide-format inkjet to high-performance electrostatic printing such as 3M ScotchPrint 2000™.
Our system accurately registers and cuts out decals and graphics from smaller than an inch in size to images as large as 71" x 118".
